Why are we fighting?

Hello war gamers,

I'm taking a quick break from rule-writing and model-building to dive into the lore a little bit more.

This game, the Adamantine Dawn is part of the larger Brassbound Universe, a place where science, technology, and magic meet. This particular chapter of the story takes place two generations after the Great War, in a time of profound change. What began with an assassination ended with the deaths of millions, the fall of empires, and the forging of new nations. All this, before the Cataclysm...

The Cataclysm itself proved both more disruptive and more destructive than the Great War. Things that previously were, ceased to be.  Armies that scarred and pillaged landscapes, and leveled cities, disappeared overnight. In their place were storms of previously unknown size and ferocity, wracking whole continents at a time, bringing society to its knees. Ecosystems teetered and in some cases, collapsed.

But the Cataclysm also provided new opportunities. In time, the storms withdrew in both area and intensity. Ecosystems began to recover. The world that emerged from the Cataclysm was very different than before. Innumerable bird species did not survive the constant maelstrom and the very nature of both the air and the ground seemed to have....changed...But most unexplained of all were the new materials and devices that appeared with wonderous and unexplored possibilities.

The "Adamantine Dawn" refers to a period in time when the new metamaterial Adamantine began to see practical applications in both civilian and military applications. Capable of being both rigid and flexible, strong and dynamic, Adamantine allow for machines, devices, and technologies that are not possible with traditional ores, composites, and components.

That's all for now...
