They Fly Now?! BAD v0.80 Released

Hello War Gamers!

After a much-needed holiday, I'm now back home and am delighted to publish version 0.80 - which reintroduces the Spotting mechanic, and introduces a new keyword that I think you'll all have loads of fun experimenting with...

Spotting was a mechanic that came out a while ago in version 0.50, but it never really worked in a way that felt thematic or exciting. Previously, it required two units who both had Line of Sight on a target. Assuming this condition was met, you gained Adv(1) on the attack. We tried a few permutations to make it fun, but ultimately decided to take it back to the drawing board.

Now, it also requires two turns to reach fruition. Here is how it works: the first unit elects to use one action to place a Spotting Token next to the target. In a subsequent activation, one of your units can remove the token in exchange for getting Adv(1) when attacking a target within (S) of the token. Think of this a bit like a signal flare; you drop it where you want to attack and then start firing. In testing, this introduced some fun scenarios where it forced opponents to activate a unit that had been spotted before they wanted to, to avoid them being destroyed. I am looking forward to your feedback!

I've also introduced a new keyword that got lots of excitement on the Discord server: Flying. It works largely how you think it should; Flying units can bypass all terrain, and are treated as being In Cover when attacked by non-Flying units. But that comes at a cost; they cannot capture Strategic Points.

The future of Brassbound is bright. We're almost finished with Adamantine Dawn, and are discussing what comes next. We have a few concepts out there, each in different phases of maturity. If you want to be included, hop on the Discord Server and send me a note.

Happy War Gaming,

Paul
